What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture originated in China where it has been practised for thousands of years. Treatment involves the insertion of single use sterile, hair-thin needles into the skin, This relatively painless procedure stimulates blood flow, circulation and energy, thereby promoting natural healing and improved functioning. Deirdre’s kind and compassionate approach ensures that you will feel relaxed and at ease during your treatment. A detailed health history will be taken before you receive your first treatment. Client confidentiality is assured.
How can acupuncture help you?
- Drug-free pain relief
- Effectively treats a wide range of acute and chronic ailments
- A holistic treatment approach, linking mind and body
- Assists in prevention of disease and in maintaining general well-being.
While well known for its effectiveness in treating stress, anxiety and pain, Acupuncture gives safe and effective relief for a variety of illnesses such as arthritis, headaches/migraine, menstrual, PMS, menopause, respiratory, sinus, digestive, skin, cancer support and mental health issues. It can also help fertility issues and is known to support IVF treatment. In fact, the World Health Organisation recognises over 120 conditions which respond well to acupuncture.
Tina’s began her training in Healthcare in 2001 when she undertook an intensive 3 year Alexander Technique Teacher training course, qualifying in 2004. She ran a private practice in Waterford for 8 years and then spent the next 3 years teaching in the Alexander Technique Teacher Training college.
Tina is also a qualified yoga teacher. She teaches a very gentle and mindful movement practice.
Tina spent the last two years training in Bio-Dynamic Cranio Sacral therapy. This has given her a deeper understanding of the science of pain and trauma which has transformed her approach to healing. She is currently assisting on a Bio-Dynamic Cranio-Sacral Therapy training course.
Tina’s practice is based at Wharton House Private Clinic, 8 Catherine Street, Waterford.
The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a way of learning to move mindfully through life. By analysing your whole movement pattern not just your symptom, Tina makes you aware of harmful habits in your characteristic way of sitting, standing and walking. She then guides you – with words and a gentle, encouraging touch – to move in a freer, more integrated way. The Alexander Technique gives you skills which you can apply to help yourself throughout your life. Lessons are very effective in the long term relieve of back, neck and shoulder pain, headaches, breathing difficulties, stress and tiredness, ME and fibromyalgia.
Relaxation has long been valued for its healing and restorative effects on the body. Encouraging deep states of relaxation in the body is easily facilitated by Cranio-sacral therapy. CST enhances the function of the Autonomic Nervous System, which consists of the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. The body heals and repairs itself when the parasympathetic is dominant i.e. when we are most relaxed or asleep. The sympathetic nervous system, known as the “Fight or Flight” system is affected by the modern fast pace of life and this can lead to undue stress. During a session, Tina enhances the body’s natural healing ability by using a gentle hands-on touch and sensitive listening skills at the feet, the sacrum (the flat bone at the end of the spine near the tailbone), the cranium or head and any other areas that require attention. The relaxed state which happens as a result of this contact allows the client’s system to re-balance and heal. CST is effective in the relief of a wide range of conditions. See www.iacst.ie for a list of these conditions.
