Dr Caitriona Mooney

Dr Caitriona Mooney, originally from Waterford, graduated in Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1999. In 2003 she completed the Eastern Regional General Practice Training Programme and the Membership of the Irish College of General Practitioners (MICGP).

In 2001 following training in Geriatric Medicine in St.Vincent’s Hospital and The Royal Hospital in Donnybrook, she obtained a Diploma in Medicine for the Elderly (DME). She completed a Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry (DCP) in 2002 following training in AMNCH Tallagh, and in 2002 she completed a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) following training in Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Dr Mooney has a special interest in women’s health and family planning, with further postgraduate training from the Irish Family Planning Association and ICGP in contraceptive device insertion such as the Mirena intrauterine contraceptive device and the Implanon. She has also lectured on contraception, women’s health and health promotion.

Dr Mooney has training in minor surgical techniques and an interest in Dermatology, providing an expert minor surgical service to patients of the Waterford Medical Centre.

She also has a keen interest in travel health and obtained a certificate in Tropical Medicine to compliment the travel health service provided by the Waterford Medical Centre. Sports medicine is also a growing area in general practice, Dr Mooney completed a practical course on Sports Medicine to enhance the service provided in the Waterford Medical Centre. Dr Mooney is GP trainer with the South Eastern GP training program, and like all the doctors and nursing staff she is continuously updating her knowledge through further education and training.
